IB Diploma Program Curriculum
The IB DP curriculum is comprised of six subject groups and the core. The six subject groups and offered courses are: Studies in Language and Literature (English A: Language and Literature HL), Language Acquisition (Spanish B HL/SL, French B HL/SL), Individuals and Societies (History HL, Psychology SL), Natural Sciences (Biology SL), Mathematics (Maths Applications & Interpretation SL), and the Arts (Visual Arts HL/SL). The core includes Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and CAS. Each course is taken over two academic years.
Every full DP student is required to take the two-year sequence of seven IB courses, which includes Theory of Knowledge as well as one course from each of the aforementioned six subject groups, and is expected to satisfactorily complete the respective internal and external assessments. Of these seven courses, three must be at the Higher Level (English, History, and either the Arts or Language Acquisition). Additionally, students must satisfactorily complete the Extended Essay as well as approximately 18 months of CAS in order to be eligible for earning the DP diploma. Both the Extended Essay and CAS components will be addressed during the duration ofTheory of Knowledge. Course students may take one or more DP courses, excluding Theory of Knowledge, and are not required to complete the Extended Essay or CAS components.
The successful completion of each individual course and the respective exam offers the possibility of earning college credit.
